Voice Recognition Tips
I use voice recognition for programming. Yes it is slower,
sometimes frustrating, but it is do-able:
- Use 'spell mode'. In Windows Vista and later say "Start
Typing" to start spell mode and "Stop Typing" to stop.
- Learn the NATO
phonetics for the alphabet.
- You can train the voice recognition system to better recognize
the NATO phonetics by saying and correcting the NATO phonetic words in
regular 'non typing-mode'.
- Get a head mouse such as Natural Point.
- Train your voice software using a 'loud' whisper. It
sounds silly, but whispering doesn't use vocal cords and it works! You
can whisper all day long without voice strain.
- You can back up Windows Vista voice files by downloading Speech
Recognition Profile Manager from Microsoft.
- Microsoft Voice Recognition doesn't have a way to control the
mouse (right-click, left-click) that I know of to have it work in
conjunction with head mouse (Dragon Naturally Speaking does). So, set
your head mouse to left-click, right-click when you press a key (I use
F6 and F7). Then in 'Typing Mode' you can 'press' these keys to click
the mouse.
